Sunset Waimea Canyon Elopement Kauai, Hawaii

Wow. Just wow. I’m still in complete awe that I had the opportunity to attend Wild & Unwritten in Kauai! It was truly a dream come true in every way. Getting the chance to shoot in Waimea Canyon—one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Hawaii—felt like stepping into a painting. Towering cliffs, rich red rock, cascading waterfalls, and the most golden, cinematic sunset light—it was an absolute paradise and the perfect setting for an intimate elopement.

But this experience was so much more than just the location. I had the chance to meet and work alongside some of the most amazingly talented, creative women in the industry—fellow photographers, stylists, and visionaries who pour their hearts into what they do. There’s something incredibly special about being surrounded by people who share the same passion for capturing love stories in a way that feels organic, intentional, and deeply personal.

And then, of course, there was Sarah & Derik—the couple who made this shoot pure magic. Their connection, their energy, and their undeniable chemistry brought this entire vision to life in the most effortless way. These two aren’t just ridiculously adorable together (which they absolutely are); they are also some of the sweetest, most genuine souls you could ever meet.

From start to finish, this elopement was nothing short of breathtaking, and I’m beyond excited to share all the beautiful details with you.

Waimea Canyon: A Dream Elopement Destination

If you’re even considering an elopement in Hawaii, let me just say—Waimea Canyon should definitely be on your list. Nicknamed the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," this incredible location is unlike anywhere else on Earth. The moment you arrive, you’re greeted by dramatic cliffs, deep valleys, lush greenery, and endless ocean views in the distance. It’s like stepping onto another planet—but in the absolute best way possible.

The textures, the colors, the way the light shifts throughout the day—it all creates a surreal backdrop that makes every moment feel like it’s straight out of a movie. And when sunset hits? Pure magic. The entire canyon glows in warm golden hues, creating the most romantic, cinematic atmosphere.

And the best part? It’s secluded, intimate, and incredibly peaceful. Unlike a traditional venue, there are no crowds, no distractions—just you, your partner, and the wild, untamed beauty of nature. If you’re dreaming of a wedding day that’s completely focused on your love story, without the stress and chaos of a big event, an elopement here is everything.

Elopement Styling That Took Our Breath Away

As if the setting wasn’t already perfect enough, the incredible team at Bixby + Pine took it to an entirely new level with their styling.

Elopements are proof that you don’t need a massive venue or extravagant décor to create something stunning. With just a few thoughtfully chosen elements, they transformed the cliffside into a breathtaking ceremony space.

Imagine this:
✨ A soft, intimate candlelit setup
✨ Pampas grass in beautiful vases, adding the perfect touch of texture
✨ A warm, neutral color palette that blended seamlessly with the canyon’s natural tones

It was effortlessly elegant—minimal, yet deeply impactful. The kind of styling that feels like it belongs exactly where it is, elevating the space without overpowering it. And that’s what makes intentional design so powerful. When every detail is chosen with care, it creates an atmosphere that feels both effortless and unforgettable.

Sarah & Derik: A Love That Felt Effortless

Now, let’s talk about Sarah & Derik—because WOW. These two brought the kind of love and energy that makes my job as a photographer so incredibly easy.

From the moment we started shooting, it was clear that they were completely in the moment with each other. No forced poses, no awkwardness—just them, completely present, fully in love, and embracing every second of this experience together.

They danced. They laughed. They held each other as the sun dipped below the horizon, turning the canyon into a golden dreamscape. It was the kind of raw, unfiltered love that makes elopements so special—because at the end of the day, this is what it’s all about. Not the guest list. Not the table settings. Just the two of you, committing to forever in a way that feels true to who you are.

One of my favorite moments? Watching them take it all in. There was this quiet pause where they just stood together, holding hands, looking out at the vast canyon before them. No distractions. No noise. Just a simple, beautiful moment that they’ll carry with them forever.

And that’s what I love about intimate weddings and elopements. It’s about creating moments like this—ones that feel completely, undeniably you.
